The town of Virginia is pleasantly sited on the shores of Lough Ramor only 1.5 hours from Dublin. With four hotels, a caravan park, several restaurants, a nine-hole golf course, beautiful woodland walk and the Ramor theatre, Virginia has much to offer.
An angling hub, Virginia is located on the shores of Lough Ramor, popular with pike anglers. Lough Sheelin, the famous brown trout fishery is 15km away. A tackle and bait shop is located in the town.
The annual Virginia Street Fair, held on the last Sunday of June every year, is a reconstruction of Virginia's original 'Fairday' with animals, trading on the street, craft demonstration and entertainment. Visitors can see Cavan's largest display of vintage vehicles and participate in traditional Irish music and dancing.
Virginia Agricultural Show takes place in August annually and is one of the biggest and most exciting shows in the Ireland. The Virginia Pumpkin Festival, is held annually during the October Bank Holiday weekend and has become a massive event with artists such as Mundy and Sharon Shannon performing in the Pumpkin Marquee over the weekend.
Four miles north of the town is Killinkere, the reputed birthplace of American Civil War general, Philip Sheridan. The Killinkere Whit Jamboree is a major festival, run in the grounds of Killinkere Leisure Centre. The festival takes place annually over the Whit (June) Bank Holiday weekend and boasts an unrivalled selection of events for all ages.

THINGS TO DO NEAR VIRGINIA St. Kilian's Heritage Centre Mullagh, Co Cavan t: +353 (0)46 924 2433 e: stkiliancentre@eircom.net St. Kilian’s Heritage Centre celebrates the life and times of Kilian, a 7th Century saint born in Mullagh. During his mission to Germany, Kilian was martyred, and is now a patron saint of Wurzburg in Germany.
The audio-visual and 15-minute film illustrate the life of St Kilian, his martyrdom, his substantial cult following and the Germany/Mullagh connection. An exhibition brings to life the work of the Irish missionaries in Europe during the 6th and 7th centuries, through maps, photographs, statuettes, manuscript facsimiles and art reproduction.

Lough Crew Cairns Oldcastle, Co Meath On top of the highest hills in Co Meath are some of its oldest monuments, the 5000 year old passage tombs of Loughcrew.
