Ballinagh

Ballinagh, a small town six miles from Cavan, is rich in history.

In 1803, Captain Fleming, the local landlord, built a stone tower on a nearby hill, which is still called 'Fleming's folly'. This is easily accessible, and there is a fine view from it over the surrounding countryside. Indeed, on a clear day, it is possible to see the provinces of Ulster, Connacht and Leinster from this spot. The oldest building in the town today is the market house, constructed in 1821 by Fleming.

Ballinagh will host the 2007 County Fleadh Cheoil over the June Bank Holiday weekend (see below). The 2006 Fleadh was a huge success with A Fair Day also held over the weekend with mock 1950's wedding, butter making, vintage machinary display, farm animals and children's entertainment.
