Museum Opening Times: Tues - Sat 10am till 5pm Sundays 2pm till 6pm (June to September) Mondays Closed.
Situated on extensive grounds, the magnificent 19th Century building houses the material culture of County Cavan and surrounding area. Exhibition galleries feature unique Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age and Medieval artifacts. Interesting displays include the 1,000 year old Lough Errol Dug-Out boat, the 18th Century Cavan Mace, the 3-faced pre-Christian Corleck Head and Sheela-na-Gigs. Other galleries trace the story of the Gaelic Athletic Association in Cavan together with the County's folklore and heritage.
The Museum is a resource for schools, general tourists and special interest groups. Temporary exhibitions, book launches, musical sessions are also regular features.
A coffee shop, craft shop and children’s playground are also available. Well worth a visit!
EVENTS IN THE MUSEUM 2009 25th Feb 2009: Lecture Series: Talk on ‘The Nugent family and the diocese of Kilmore in the 16th and early 17th centuries’ by Prof. Colm Lennon (NUI, Maynooth). Time: 8pm
25th April 2009: Lecture Series:‘Oliver Cromwell and Ireland’ by Dr Micheál Ó Siochrú (Trinity College Dublin) Time: 8 p.m.
