Burren Forest Guided Walk, Blacklion Join Geopark Geologist, Dr. Kirstin Lemon, local historian, Jim Nolan and Coilte staff for a guided walk in the Burren Forest. The site contains a wealth of archaeological and geological wonders, many of which will be discussed. A site within the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark, the Burren Forest is a gem within the landscape of West Cavan. Meet at Burren Forest entrance at 2pm on Sunday 4th October. Then after 3 days of intense competition they are interviewed on stage and the winner is crowned King of the Culchies.

Mon 26th Oct 2009 On the Trail of the Woolly Mammoth: Earth Orienteering & Treasure Hunt Location: Turbet Island, Belturbet, Time: 11am - 6pm Turbet Island is a quiet location now, but in the past it huge woolly mammoths would have plodded slowly across this whole area. In fact, Belturbet is the site of the first ever discovery of woolly mammoth remains in Ireland. Woolly mammoths aren’t the only unusual beasts that would have wandered across this icy landscape all those years ago so why not join Geopark staff at Turbet Island and find out more about mammals such as the Woolly Rhinoceros, the Sabre-Toothed Cat, the Giant Irish Deer and the Giant Ground Sloth! e: klemon@cavancoco.ie
