Expansion of Geopark
Cavan County Council are working closely with Fermanagh District Council to expand the current Marble Arch Caves European Geoparks across the border into County Cavan.
Marble Arch Caves European Geopark attracts over 60,000 visitors every year due to its natural heritage, and visitor numbers are increasing every year. Natural heritage however doesn’t stop at the border! The landscapes that south-west Fermanagh is so rightfully famous for are found on both sides of the border so expanding the Geopark is a logical progression.
The expanded Geopark will include many fascinating places ranging from the rugged landscapes of West Cavan down to the gently rolling hills of around Cavan town. Visitors will be encouraged to explore the many fascinating sites whether this is by following one of the newly developed self touring routes or by taking part in one of the many Geopark events taking place throughout the summer.
Preparation for Geopark expansion is ongoing so look out for many exciting developments in the coming months.
